The 10 Best Mountain Bike Platform Pedals Under $100

With so many parts of a mountain bike that can be adjusted, it can be hard to afford all of the accessories you want and still feel that you are not skimping on the quality; so to help you out here are some quality mountain bike platform pedals that you can get without breaking the bank.

Each of these options are on the list because they are well-made and durable without being too heavy. Since you won’t be buying just one pedal, any one of these options will let you by a set of two for under $100 and any one of them could well be a perfect fit for you and your mountain bike.

1. VP Components VP-Vice Pedals – 4”x4”x1” – 406 grams

These pedals are lightweight, being made from aluminum alloy, and they are available in four different colors: blue, black, grey, and red. At 406 grams it weighs less than a pound for the pair of them, and its small 4”x4” size is very convenient, being large enough to get a good grip on without being overly bulky or sticking out too much.

These mountain biking pedal have a very shallow profile and they come with twelve adjustable pins to help any shoe you wear to be able to have some grip and to decrease the chances of you feet slipping on it. Or, if you don’t want the pins, you can remove them altogether.

2. Wellgo MG-1 Magnesium Sealed Platform Petals – 5”x5”x3” – 448 grams

These pedals come in black, red, silver, or white and have a magnesium body and sealed bearings for durability. These platform pedals also come included with pedal reflectors which help with your visibility if you ride during dark hours or which can be easily removed should you not want them for any reason.

They are a bit thicker and are also somewhat heavier than some of the other ones on my list, but their design makes them have a great grip even when wet. This option has nine steel pins in it that help with grip and which are removable and adjustable if you want them to poke out more or less, so as to give you more grip or to not damage your shoes.

3. Imrider Lightweight Polyamide Pedal – 4.13”x3.74”x0.94” – 353.5 grams

Made from polyamide to be resistant to any and every type of corrosion, this option is even resistant to scratching. It comes in four different colors: black, blue, orange, and red. It is super gripping thank to its anti-skid nail surface paired with its eight studs and it is easy to install, even fitting kids bikes, road bikes, or anything other kind of bike you might want to put it on.

This platform bike pedal is very nice and small in size and very lightweight with the more rounded edges of this option making sure that, if your foot does slip and you get hit with the pedal, it won’t hurt nearly as much as a sharper-edged pedal would.

4. RaceFace Chester Composite Platform Pedals – 5”x5”x1” – 340 grams

This option has plenty of color options with eight different colors that you can choose from: black, purple, blue, light blue, green, yellow, orange, or red and is made out of a nylon composite. The studs are eight removable steel pins which are very screw-like and therefore easy to adjust.

They are very lightweight compared to steel or even aluminum pedals, while their fairly large size lets even people who have big feet have plenty of space on the pedal. Since the nylon is colored before the pedals are made, the color is all the way through, meaning that even if you were to get scratches or gashes in it this fact will be made less noticeable thanks to the solid color.

5. RockBros Lightweight Mountain Bike Pedals – 4.72”x4.13”x0.78” – 363 grams

These mountain bike pedals have a very durable nylon fiber surface that is great for withstanding any wear and tear from the trail, though it does not get along well with lots of rocks. It also comes in four colors: black, yellow, orange, and red.

This pair has ten anti-skid nails which can be adjusted to different thicknesses or pulled out entirely, the advantage of these is that their nut and bolt design makes them extra secure in the pedal with no danger that they will fall out. They are nice and light with sealed bearings to prevent water or dust from getting in and damaging anything. These pedals also fit almost any kind of bike that you might own.

6. Shimano PD-MX80 Platform Pedals – 4”x4”x0.75” – 499 grams

These mountain biking pedals feature a unique concave design which is made to give you better control as well as to make your energy more efficient. It only comes in one color which is a black and white pattern, but this is perhaps its only downside besides its noticeable weight.

Its nine replaceable grip pins are screwed into the back so that you can get to them easily for any adjustments that you might want to make on them. These, paired with its design, give it a great amount of grip which is no surprise considering that these pedals were designed for downhill racing which really requires you to be able to have a good grip on your pedals.

7. Fooker MTB Bike Pedal – 4.3”x4”x1” – 360 grams

This pedal option can come with a three bearing or a needle roller bearing for a total of eleven different options featuring six different colors including black, blue, green, yellow, and orange. The needle roller bearing in particular is a great feature to have and in this case it doesn’t cost a whole lot more.

It gets its light weight from being made of nylon composite, but the axel bearing and spindle are made of steel for extra durability. This all comes together to make it waterproof, dustproof, rustproof, anti-skidding, and durable enough for aggressive off-trial usage. It has eight skid nails which are easy to access form the other side and it can come with an exceptionally long warranty of three years.

8. Mzyrh Mountain Bike Petals – 4.13”x 3.58”x1” – 409 grams

This option, like the last one, has a roller bearing option. As the ultimate color option on my list it has fourteen different color combinations that you can purchase, or you can mix and match the different parts if you want to do so. It essentially comes in five main pieces which are connected with the antiskid nails and each of which can be a different color. This allows you to choose a red, white, and blue color scheme or any other color scheme you choose.

The frame of these mountain biking pedals are made out of aluminum alloy along with skid nails that are made out of the same thing which help the frame provide plenty of friction for grip. It is also fairly light weight for a pedal its size and is an all around great choice for a mountain bike pedal that does its job and looks great while doing so.

9. BC Wide Platform Mountain Bike Pedals – 6.7”x 6.5”x0.75” – 360 grams

These mountain biking pedals are by far the biggest option on my list, but they are still nice and easy on the weight thanks in part to their thin frame as well as the fact that it is made of machined aluminum. While it only comes in black or titanium color, it can have pink, purple, or red anti-skid pins for just a little bit of color and it does come with ten of these per pedal.

The bearings are sealed and the thin frame has the added benefit of making sure you don’t hit rock when your pedal is at its low down position. An extra nice feature to have is that the anti-skid screws are actually a size that you might be able to find at a hardware store, making them exceptionally easy to replace.

10. ThinkTop Trade 3 Bearing Road Mountain Bike Pedals – 4”x4”x0.83” – 370 grams

This option on my list has a three bearing design somewhat similar to the Mzyrh option further up. It has a few color options: titanium, red, greed, gold, and blue, but each of these colors is only for half of the pedal, the other half always being black.

The anti-skid nails on this are smoothed somewhat so that they can still offer grip but are much less likely to hurt your shoes. The spindle comes with a waterproof and dust proof cover gasket that fits securely on. Different parts of it are made with either aluminum alloy or steel, making it nice and durable and it is also made to fit nearly any bike that you could want to put it on.
