Mountain Bike Rental Stores Guide – U. S. Largest U. S. Cities


If you are traveling to a different state or city, it can be nice to know where to find a store where you can rent a mountain bike if you either forgot to take your own or simply find you have some extra time after your business is over. This list will give you an idea of the options that are out there and what you can expect to pay.

I will be giving you a list of the top ten largest cities in the United States and the top three places where you can rent a mountain bike in each of these cities. Some have a wide range of options in just mountain bikes, others have more options of other bike choices.

1. New York, New York

New York, New York has several bike tours that are both in it and near it; you can even rent bikes in Central Park. There is one tour in Central Park Tour and a half-day one called the Harlem & Bronx Tour. In nearby Brooklyn there is the Waterfront Guided Tour, the 3-Hour Tip of Manhattan Tour, and there is one trail in New York Manhattan called the Central Park Trail that is 3.8miles.

Kickstand Bicycles – Midtown East

Kickstand Bicycles’ hours are Monday -Friday 10:00am-7:00pm, Saturday 10:00am-6:00pm, and Sunday 11:00am-6:00pm. It was started by a man named Ben who, after 8 years of working in a suit with media, decided to ditch his job in order to go do what he enjoyed best and start up a bike shop where helping people is number 1.

Kickstand Bicycles rents hybrid bicycles from 1 hour for $9.00 up to three days for $60.00, the rental fee including a helmet and a lock. Renting is first come first serve, and you must have Credit Card and Photo ID. They also have a selection of road racing bikes rent but these are by reservations only and are more expensive. Out of 126 reviews their rating is a 5, which alone speaks for itself.

Master Bike Shop INC

Master Bike Shop INC is located 1 ½ blocks away from Central Park and 1 block away from Riverside Park. Their location makes them a great location for riding down to Central Park and Riverside. Their hours are Monday-Friday 10:30am-7:00pm with Saturday & Sunday being 10:00am-6:00pm, Closed only on Christmas Day.

They rent Hybrid bikes for adults and children. Prices are $20.00 for up to 4 hours to $40.00 for up to 24 hours or overnight. Their helmets and locks are extra $5.00 each, they have pedal options available, and baby seats are free. They also have road bikes to rent but you need to call them for more information. A credit card number is held as a deposit for the rental.

Waterfront Bicycle Shop

Waterfront Bicycle Shop is in the area of Manhattan that is “off the grid” where many people go to the Hudson River Park which is 550 acres. There is also the Manhattan Waterfront Greenway right across the street from the shop that has a 32-mile bike path and a park that circles the island and lets you explore the waterfront from a bike path that is completely separated from auto traffic along most of the route.

They have over 100 hybrid bikes available for rent, from Men’s XS-XL, Women’s small and medium, and children’s bikes. Their prices are discounted now from one hour for $7.50 to all day for $20. This price includes a lock, a helmet, a basket, and a map. Their hours are 10:00am-7:00pm and they have a free air pump out front that is available even after hours.

2. Los Angeles, California

Los Angles, California has a number of different trails and even has something called Bikes and Hikes LA that provide a lot of different tours of the area both for bikers and hikers. Among these is what they call their LA in a Day Tour which lasts 6 hours and goes for 32 miles, visiting various celebrity homes and even stopping for lunch at Venice Beach.

Beverly Hills Bike Shop

Beverly Hills Bike Shop is open Monday-Friday 10:00am-7:00pm, Saturday 10:00am-6:00pm, and Sunday 11:00am-6:00pm. Their rentals start at $25.00 a day and they also have weekly and even monthly rates. For high performance or premium bikes it ranges from $50.00-$95.00 a day including repair kits and your choice of pedal system. They will even drop off and pickup at your hotel.

Spokes ‘N Stuff

Spokes ‘N Stuff has both bicycle rentals and Electric bike rentals. You get to choose your bike and where you want to pick it up at. They have four locations inside California: Santa Monica, Venice Beach, Griffith Park, and Los Angeles West Hollywood. Each of these places has different kinds of bikes available for you to choose from.

Los Angeles West Hollywood is opened Monday-Saturday 10:30am-6:00pm and Sunday 12noon-6:00pm. The Griffith Park location is opened only from Memorial Day to Labor Day Monday-Friday 2:00pm-sundown, with Saturday and Sunday being 10:30am-sundown. From September 6th-29th they are only opened Saturday-Sunday 10:30am-sundown and they are closed if it rains.

Bikes & Hikes LA

Bikes& Hikes LA has got a lot to offer! You can rent stylish city bikes, sturdy mountain bikes, sleek road bikes, and effortless electric bikes you can use to zip up hills with no effort at all. With the rental they include a professional-quality helmet, a reflective safety vest, and a bike lock. They will also do drop off/ pick up for $25.00 if you are less than 5 miles away.

They help you plan the best route that will include all LA’s top attractions you would like to see, making sure your bike skill level is considered in every area to give you the ideal visit you are looking for in LA. They offer single day, multi-day, weekly, or monthly rentals, that can be booked out up to six months ahead or you can just walk in the door and rent one. They even have guided bike tours. The bikes can be picked up seven days a week between 8:00am-5:00pm. The prices for mountain bikes are as low as $44.00 a day or $198.00 a week.

3. Chicago, Illinois

Chicago, Illinois is a lovely place to see with Lincoln Park right there to explore. There are also tours that you can take to see the sights as well as ones for the park, one of which is called the Chicago Sunset Tour that gives you a marvelous view of the city and the sunset.

Roscoe Village Bikes

Roscoe Village Bikes is open Monday-Thursday 11:00am-8:00pm and Friday-Sunday 11:00am-6:00pm with their Fall/Winter hours (November-March) being Wednesday 11:00am-5:30pm. They care for all kinds of cyclists from commuters to racers. They have a Roscoe Village Kidical Mass monthly family bike ride at 10:30am the 1st Sunday of the month, starting from the Audubon School playground. Rentals for their top three bikes are: Big Blue $25.00, The Augustus $25.00, and The Red Baron $50.00.

Trek Bicycle Chicago Wicker Park

Trek Bicycle is conveniently located in Wicker Park and is open Monday- Friday from 11:00am-7:00pm, Saturday 10:00am-6:00pm, and Sunday from 11:00am-5:00pm. They have many different mountain, road, city, and electric bikes to choose from ranging from $55.00-$150.00 a day. Trek Bicycle has locations in 21 states in the United States, so they aren’t just a small store and they are able to offer a much wider variety to choose from, and they even have an online store.

Bike and Roll Chicago

Bike and Roll Chicago is open at Navy Pier from Monday-Thursday 9:30am-7:00pm, Friday-Sunday 9:00am-7:00pm, and at Millennium Park Monday-Sunday 9:00am-7:00pm. Like the last bike rental store they have over 30 bike places and tours nationwide, which gives them a variety of bikes that you can choose from.

The price varies according to the bike and can be $10.00-$25.00 per hour or $25.00-$75.00 for a full day, with kid’s bikes being only $10.00 per hour. Their most expensive bikes, however like the Small Surrey Cycle cost $25.00 for 30 minutes or $35.00 for hour, and their Large Surrey Cycle costs $35.00 for 30 minutes or $45.00 per hour.

4. Houston, Texas

Houston, Texas is close to countless biking trails both in and around the city. There are both the Hermann Park and the Memorial Park in easy distance along with the Buffalo Bayou, each one of these providing plenty of trail opportunities all on their own.

Bike Barn

Bike Barn is located right on Houston’s Buffalo Bayou which has miles of beautiful biking trails which surround the bayou. Bike rentals are available for hour, ½ day(4hours), and full day (8 hours) and the mountain bikes are from $20.00 per hour to $79.00 for a full day. They have several other types to choose from and the prices do vary.

Reservations can be done by either online or you can just walk in and rent a bike. They even have bike tours, especially in and around the Bayou they are near. The hours are Saturdays & Sundays 10:00am-Dusk, they do close for rain or if the temperature drops below 50 degrees.

Houston B Cycle

Houston B Cycle is a cycle system that is distributed throughout the United States in some of the largest states, and that is used to help cut down on auto traffic and fumes. It has an App called BCycle App that is available for both iOS and Android phones. You can use it to find the B stations wherever you are in the city that has them.

Once there you walk-up and pay with a credit card $3.00 per 30 minutes flat rate at the kiosk. You can get a membership for $13.00 a monthly or $79.00 yearly to get the first 60 minutes of every ride free, then after first hour pay the $3.00 for every 30 minutes. The yearly gives you unlimited trips, a free RFID card, and it allows you to use the BCycle in over 30 different cities. Basically you rent, grab the bike, ride it, and then dock it back at one of the 98 BCycle kiosks in Houston, Texas. They also have electric bikes but these cost an additional $3.00 fee. They are open 24 hours.

EaDo Bike Company

EaDo Bike Company is a full-service bike shop in East Downtown Houston offering repairs, new and used bikes, and quality bike rentals. They are located at the head of the Columbia Tap Trail and are open from 11:00am–6:00pm Wednesday – Monday, beings closed on Tuesdays.

Rentals for single speed bikes are $25.00 for 24 hours, Recreational and Hybrid bikes $15.00 for 2 hours to $100.00 for 7 days, Mountain Bikes $30.00 for 2 hours to $200.00 for 7 days, and Road Bikes for $25.00 for 2 hours to $200.00 for 7 days. All rentals include a helmet, a lock, lights, and a map of local trails.

5. Phoenix, Arizona

Phoenix, Arizona has a lot of beautiful trails and scenery most of the trails being having the classic desert and red rock that you would expect to see here. No matter what your purpose is for visiting this city you should always give yourself the time to ride at least a few of these fantastic trails.

Global Bikes

Global Bikes is a locally owned and operated bicycle shop that has became one of Arizona’s top bicycle dealers and has even achieved national notoriety by winning the NBDA’s “America’s Best Bike Shop” Award five years in a row. Their support and involvement in the cycling community is top, their product selection, service, and rental offerings also set them apart from all competition.

It is open on Monday-Saturday 10:00am-7:00pm and Sunday 10:00am-5:00pm. They have two rental locations and require a $200.00 security deposit for rentals and have 6 types of bicycles to rent with the cost being $90.00 for the first 24hours.

Cactus Adventures

Cactus Adventures offers mountain bike guided tours that build your confidence and skill no matter what level of cycling experience you do or don’t have. Their mountain bike rentals include a helmet, a map, and even water, and the bikes to choose from are: Hardtail, Full Suspension mountain bikes and Hybrid Comfort bikes.

They will meet you at the Arizona Grand Resort that is minutes away from the Pima Canyon Trailhead at the base of South Mountain, give you everything you need to have a great cactus adventure where there are 50 plus miles of trails to choose from, and be there to pick up the bike when you are done. Rental prices range from half day which is 4 hours at $45.00 to 5 days at $295.00 and they also have kid’s bikes. You can call them anytime from 8:00am-8:00pm to make your reservations.

Landis Cyclery

Landis Cyclery is opened from Monday – Friday 10:00am-7:00pm, Saturday 9:00am–6:00pm, and Sunday 11:00am–4:00pm. Their rental bikes include Mountain, Road, and Recreational models. They also have optional add-ons of helmets and locks for your convenience which you pay more for. The price for one day ranges from $75.00-$90.00 or you can rent up to seven days for $335.00-$380.00 not counting tax.

6. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Philadelphia has some lovely countryside trails to ride through and it even has the John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge that you can ride through on a bike trail. All in all, you should never pass up an opportunity to bike the trails here.

Brewerytown Bicycles

Brewerytown Bicycles hours are Wednesday to Friday 12:00pm-7:00pm and Saturday to Sunday 10:00am-5:00pm. Their Marin Bobcat Trail 5 is a super fun Hardtail Mountain bike that they offer for you to rent. Its rate is $40.00 daily, $60.00 for 24 hours, or $80.00 for 48 hours. They host a Beginner MTB ride every 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month.

Fairmount Bicycles

Fairmount Bicycles is open Tuesday to Friday 11:00am-6:00pm and Saturday to Sunday 10:00am-5:00pm.Bike rentals are from 2 hours up to a week and their prices start at $14.00 for 2 hours up to $80.00 for 48 hours. They have Hybrid and Road bikes and include a helmet and a lock with each rental. Fairmount Park is nearby for enjoying their paths, and the shore is not far away if you don’t mind riding on sandy or pebbly beaches.

Trek Bicycle Philadelphia Center City

Trek Bicycle Philadelphia Center City is open Sunday 11:00am-5:00pm, Monday to Friday 11:00am-7:00pm, and Saturday 10:00am-6:00pm. They have many different mountain, road, city, and electric bikes to choose from to rent ranging from $55.00-$150.00 a day. Trek Bicycle has locations in 21 different states in the United States, so they aren’t just a small local store. This helps them be able to offer a much wider variety to choose from, and they even have an online store.

7. San Antonio, Texas

San Antonio, Texas has not only some incredible scenery but also has a wide variety of historic sites that you can visit as well. On top of this there is the McAllister Park and other places nearby that are also near enough to bike to and ride their trails with various creeks and canyons dotting the whole area.

Alamo Bike Shop

Alamo Bike Shop hours are Wednesday to Friday 11:00am-6:00pm and Saturday 1:00am-6:00pm. Rentals are $20.00 for 4 hours, $5.00 for each additional hour, $175.00 per week, $75.00 for the Friday- Sunday weekend rate, and $30.00 per day children’s bike with adult rider. They also have a $25.00 pickup and drop off rate if you are inside Loop. There are many sites to see from the Alamo, the San Antonio Park, the Botanical Gardens, the Zoo, there is also the River Walk, parks, and museums to name a few.

Blue Star Bike Shop

Blue Star Bike Shop was first opened inside the Blue Star Brewing Company in 2004. In 2009 they moved it next door in its very own location. Then in 2017 they became a full-service bike shop. They are open Monday-Saturday from 9:00am–6:00pm and Sunday 9:00am–5:00pm. They rent some bikes for $20.00 for a half a day or $28.00 full day, their Road and Hybrid bikes costing $40.00 a day.

Bike World

Bike World at The Historic Park is open Monday to Friday from 10:00am-7:00pm, Saturday 10:00am-6:00pm, and Sunday 12:00pm-5:00pm. Rentals for their Trek and Electra bikes range from $35.00-$75.00 for 4 hours to $230.00-$360.00 for 5 days and they also have prices for kid bikes. The rental fee includes a helmet and a water bottle. There are a number of sites around the location of this bike rental shop, including the San Antonio Riverwalk to Brewery.

8. San Diego, California

San Diego California has all kinds of trails around it, a large portion of which are scenic canyon trails. These can range from really short ones that are just over a mile to get your feet wet to over 11 miles should you have plenty of time and want a challenge.

The Bike Revolution

The Bike Revolution is opened everyday from 9:00am-5:00pm. They are located in the downtown area and every bike rental comes with the bike sized to your needs, a helmet, a repair kit, a bike lock, a map, and guidance from their experienced team. They offer mountain bikes to explore some amazing trails that are a short distance from downtown to the east. They also have road bikes if you prefer. Pricing for mountain bike rentals are $80.00-$120.00 a day to $330.00-$500.00 a week. Road bike pricing is from $50.00-$85.00 per day to $130.00-$280.00 a week.

Ray’s Rentals

Ray’s Rentals has 2 different locations in San Diego: Their hours are 9:00am-6:00pm seven days a week.
Their Mission Beach rental store is located one block north of Belmont Park, a short block from both Mission Bay to the east and the beautiful Mission Beach shoreline to the west. In addition to their usual bike which range from $8.00-$20.00 per hour to $45.00-$90.00 for weekly rentals, they also have kid’s bikes and even Tandem ( two-seater) bikes.

Their Pacific Beach rental store is located two blocks north of Crystal Pier, one short block from both the boardwalk and the surf. Their prices and their hours are the same as for their other location, and they also still offer both the kid’s bikes and Tandem bikes.

Moment Bicycles

Moment Bicycles also has two locations in San Diego. Their Point Loma location is located just minutes from the San Diego International Airport, downtown San Diego, the Mission Bay, the Pacific Beach, the Old Town, and is in the heart of Point Loma.

Their Carmel Valley location is located just east of Del Mar, and south of Rancho Santa Fe, is on the edge of great gravel trails and roads boasting some of the best riding in San Diego county. It is also only blocks away from Penasquitos Canyon, the Del Mar Mesa trail, the Lusardi Loop, and the Black Mountain trails.
Both locations are open Monday-Friday 11:00am-7:00pm and Saturday -Sunday 10:00am-6:00pm and their rental prices are $90.00 per day to $365.00 a week.

9. Dallas, Texas

Dallas, Texas is near to Reverchon Park and Trammell Crow Park, both of which have trails that you can bike down. There are also some urban trails that you can ride. Perhaps one of the longest of the trails near Dallas is called the White Rock Ramble that is over 20 miles long and which is definitely well worth the effort to ride.

Richardson Bike Mart (RBM)

Richardson Bike Mart is located at White Rock Lake and is open Monday-Friday from 10:00am-7:00pm, Saturday from 9:00am-6:00pm, and Sunday from 12:00pm-5:00pm. They rent Mountain Bikes, Carbon Road bike, Sport Road bikes, Women’s Road bikes, Hybrid bikes, and Tandem bikes, and they cost from $35.00-$85.00 a day.

Playtri

Playtri is an official triathlon store and as such they know their bikes. They are opened on Monday-Friday 11:00am-7:00pm, Saturday starting from 8:00am, and Sunday 12:00pm-5:00pm. Rentals cost $45.00-$200.00 a day depending purchase price of the bike and includes flat pedals. If in stock they will also let you have clip-in pedals, a helmet, and a bottle cage.

Bicycles Plus

Bicycles Plus is open from Monday -Saturday from 10:00am-6:00pm and Sunday from Noon-5:00pm. They rent Mountain & Road bikes for $75.00 for first day and $25.00 for each additional day. Full Suspension MTB cost $100.00 first day and $50.00 for each additional day. They offer some group rides, requiring you to have your own helmet, but these are only during Daylight Savings Time.

10. San Jose, California

San Jose, California is the 10th and last city on our list, but is definitely one that you should not overlook. California is a place that has some amazing scenery and getting out in the fresh air can help you to enjoy it all the more.

San Jose Bike Rentals

San Jose Bike Rentals hours are Monday- Friday 11:00am–7:00pm, Saturday 10:00am–6:00pm, and Sunday 11:00am-5:00pm. They rent Full Suspension, Hardtail, Road, Town, and Electric Assist bikes. Prices range from $20.00-$100.00 for all day, $60.00-$150.00 for 24hrs, $150.00-$700.00 a week, or even $240.00-$1000.00 per month.

Trail Head Cyclery

Trail Head Cyclery is open Monday-Friday 10:00am-7:00pm, Saturday 9:00am-6:00pm, and Sunday 10:00am-6:00pm. Every first Wednesday of every month their hours are 11:00am–7:00pm.One day costs $50.00-$100.00, to a week for $200.00-$350.00.

Their rental program is unique because they allow you to try many bikes out by renting them and then the rental goes toward the purchase of a bike if you want. You can only apply $1000.00 toward a bike over $2500.00. Of course their rental program works great for people who only want to rent too.

Summit Bicycles

Summit Bicycles is a Trek store that has lots of bikes to choose from. Their hours are Monday-Friday 11:00am-7:00pm, Saturday 10:00am-6:00pm, and Sunday 11:00am-5:00pm. They have Mountain bikes, Road bikes, Town bikes, and Electric bikes which they rent for $60.00-$150.00 per day to $150.00-$4001.00 per week.
